BlackBerry Tries To Steal Apple Fans With Tempting Offer
BlackBerry is going after Apple by offering iPhone owners a great deal to ditch the Apple phones in favor of its own devices.
BlackBerry has suffered a major setback in the smartphone industry after its sales stumbled as more and more people switched to Android and iOS platforms. The Canadian smartphone vendor is trying to turn the tables by going after the Apple fans with a tempting deal. Announcing the promotion on Monday, BlackBerry said it will pay $550 to the customers who trade in their iPhones for the new BlackBerry Passport.
The breakdown of the deal is that BlackBerry will give customers a trade in value for used iPhones up to $400, which is depending on the model and the condition of the device, in addition to a $150 gift card. The promotion will kick off December 1 and run through February 13, 2015, making its attempt to gain customer's attraction during the busy holiday season.
Eligible iPhones that can be exchanged for a new Passport include the iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, and iPhone 4S. BlackBerry also listed the approximate value for certain models such as an iPhone 4S is worth up to $90, iPhone 5 up to $150, iPhone 5C up to $130, iPhone 5S up to $235 and iPhone 6 up to $400. All smartphones get a BlackBerry top-up credit of $150 regardless of the traded handset.
BlackBerry launched Passport in September as the company's flagship phone to give power to professionals. As Apple is the preferred choice among most corporate officials, it is quite evident that BlackBerry is going after Apple to regain its lost position.
The company took off on a good note with its square-shaped device, with 200,000 sold-out stocks at BlackBerry online store and at Amazon.
For those who are interested in buying the Passport but have no iPhone to trade in, the handset will be on sale for $499 for an unlocked version through Black Friday.
