Channing Tatum’s 'Gambit' Spinoff Movie Loses Director
The Gambit movie is once again at risk of getting axed.
FOX's X-Men spinoff movie that is starring fan favorite, "Magic Mike XXL" actor, Channing Tatum as Gambit/Remy LeBeau, a thief with mutant powers, just lost its director, Rupert Wyatt. Deadline reported on the story first.
"I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project," said Wyatt, who directed FOX's "Rise of the Planet of Apes." "I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."
A source revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Wyatt dropped out of the project due to a changing script, which increased the film's budget and lengthened the shoot. The new change ended up pushing the project back, causing scheduling conflicts for Wyatt. THR cited another source who stated that Mardi Gras affected the film's shooting schedule. The film takes place in the South.
A new director is expected to be named soon unless the movie gets postponed. French actress Lea Seudoux is rumored to be starring opposite Tatum as Bella Donna Bourdreaux.
Josh Zetumer wrote the script and Tatum, Reid Carolin, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg are producing. Production, which was supposed to start in November, will be starting in early 2016.
"Gambit" is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 7, 2016 (IMDB).
