The Golden State Warriors are very close to signing a deal with the two-time NBA MVP, Steve Nash. League sources revealed, via ESPN.com that Nash would be the team's part-time player development consultant.

The sources added that the Warriors' head coach Steve Kerr and team president Rick Welts went to great lengths to convince Nash to consider coaching, a career path that Nash did not plan for when he retired from the league in March.

Marc Stein of ESPN wrote:

"The parties, sources said, are in the process of finalizing a deal that essentially will make Nash an occasional tutor to the Golden State guards. Kerr, Welts and current Warriors player development coach Bruce Fraser -- all of whom worked closely with the 41-year-old Nash when he was playing in Phoenix -- are among Nash's closest friends in the league and ultimately persuaded him to consider joining the NBA reigning champions as a part-timer."

If Nash agrees to the deal, which the team is finalizing, he would help mentor individual players a few days a month. Nash would be expected to work with the 2014-15 MVP, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Nash could also be helpful for the team's other players, such as Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green.

Nash has a history of mentoring other players. While injured last season, he worked with Jordan Clarkson of the Los Angeles Lakers. During this summer, sources reported that Nash worked with several guards, who included Jeremy Lin, Dante Exum, Kemba Walker and C.J. McCollum.

Nash's 19-year NBA career was impressive. The eight-time All-Star is currently ranked third on the all-time list for assists (10,335).
