‘Winds of Winter’ Release Date: George R.R. Martin and Show Rumored to Be on Same Page for Jon Snow's Fate
Jon Snow, played by the handsome Kit Harington, might be alive in "Winds of Winter" and "Games of Thrones."
Even though the HBO show, "Games of Thrones" is based on George R.R. Martin's series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," the TV show has diverged from the books' plot lines numerous times.
SPOILERS ALERT*
In the season five finale of "Games of Thrones," Snow seemingly gets killed by members of the Night's Watch who did not agree with his decision to help the wildings. Although the shows producer, Dan Weiss, has stated that Snow is 100 percent dead, there have been a lot of evidence that suggest otherwise.
In an interview with the Dutch-language Belgian magazine, Humo, while promoting his new film, "Testament of Youth," Harington was asked if he was returning to season six of "Games of Thrones." Instead of giving a direct answer, Harington talked about how the show has been a "doubled-edged sword" for his acting career.
"I had to pass on amazing parts because I was attached to 'Game of Thrones.' So the show is like a double-edged sword to me. I owe a lot to it, but at the same time, it has almost completely drained me," the 28-year-old British actor said. "Oh well, I try not to think about it too much. The important thing is that I now know exactly how long I am still under contract."
When asked specifically how much longer he will be on the show, Harington gave a vague reply.
"I can't talk about that. Let's just say that 'Game of Thrones' will remain a part of my life for a while. I'll probably be in my thirties when it's over," he said.
Since Harington turns 29 later on this year, fans are speculating that he will be on the show for the remaining seasons. This interview did not provide a date but claimed that they spoke to Harington recently.
Aside from this interview, Watchers of the Wall cited a source who claimed that Harington was in Belfast filming a huge fight scene. The fight scene supposedly involves the Northern Armies. Harington has also been spotted in Belfast hanging out with other actors from the show.
It seems like Snow will be alive in season six!
In the books, Snow's death was never set in stone. Martin hinted in an interview that Snow would survive the stabbing.
The author had said, "Yes, I always had plans, what Tyrion's arc was gonna be through this, what Arya's arc was gonna be through this, what Jon Snow's arc is gonna be."
It will be interesting to see how Martin keeps Snow alive in "Winds of Winter," the sixth book of his seven-book series, which is slated to be released sometime next year.
"Games of Thrones" season six will be premiering sometime in the spring.
