Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Dez Bryant Undergoes Foot Surgery

Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys underwent successful surgery to place a screw in the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot. Bryant sustained the injury during their Week 1 win over the New York Giants on Sunday night. Bryant is expected to return to the field after four to six weeks, head coach Jason Garrett revealed.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on a more realistic timetable on Tuesday. Schefter tweeted, "ESPN's Dr. Mark Adickes said [four to six] weeks was an aggressive time frame, and a more likely time frame for Dez Bryant's recovery is [eight to twelve] weeks."

The 26-year-old wide receiver updated his fans via twitter. He tweeted, "I will keep the all Dallas Cowboys fans updated so don't listen to all the craziness.... Surgery went great..... I can't wait to get back."

"That's a tough loss. You can't replace Dez Bryant," quarterback Tony Romo said, per DallasCowboys.com. "I hurt for him right now because I know how much he loves to play this game. We'll have to reassess that and figure out where to put guys and try and help."

With Bryant sidelined, the Cowboys will have to rely on Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Devin Street, Lance Dunbar and Jason Witten. Ron Phillips of DallasCowboys.com detailed what the Cowboys could do with their offense without Bryant:

"The offense is still going to try to establish the run, but to your point, receivers will have to win one-on-one matchups if defenses do start creeping an extra defender in the box. Jason Witten might see more bracket coverage without Bryant commanding his own double teams. This is a big opportunity for Terrance Williams, who has had plenty of practice time as the lead receiver since the offseason. I wonder if this means more Gavin Escobar. We saw again Sunday what he can do in the red zone and he has receiver-like traits."

The Cowboys will be playing the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday, Sept. 20 at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
