Verizon Finally Pushing Android Lollipop To Moto X Smartphones; See New Improvements
Amid reports of Android Lollipop roll-out, Verizon has released Android Lollipop 5.0 to Motorola's flagship Moto X smartphone.
Motorola is among the few smartphone vendors that started pushing Android's latest version, Lollipop 5.0, to its devices. Sadly, carrier-based Motorola smartphone users were not treated with the new software but things are changing now. Verizon, the largest wireless carrier, has finally started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Motorola Moto X smartphones on Monday.
The software update, which weighs in over 600MB, brings a slew of new features and major visual developments. The changes that Lollipop brings to Moto X are almost similar to the stock Android experience, complete with the latest Material Design UI tinkered with Motorola's own look and software tweaks.
Verizon also listed the improvements in Moto X after the Android 5.0 update. The update brings better visibility with new calendar, enhanced notifications, revamped recent screen window and home screen with search bar, app folders, status bar and animation. With the update, users can easily toggle between Android 5.0's Ambient Display and Motorola's own Moto Display lock screen, which the company says is more efficient.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables," the carrier said. "The new material design offers complex animations and 3-D views, 64-bit ABI support and improved runtime."
Android Lollipop's release has been tagged with a few bugs on select handsets, such as the older Nexus devices. A bug in the software made the device play up with Wi-Fi issues and battery drainage. There have been no reports of Lollipop causing errors on Moto X, so it should be safe to go for the upgrade on your Verizon handset.
