iPhone 6S Poised To Break Last Year Sales Record, Apple Claims
Apple has claimed preorders for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are pouring in and the new phones are on track to beat opening-week sales of last year's phones.
The company sold 10 million units of iPhone 6 and its bigger variant iPhone 6 Plus in the first weekend following their launch last year. Though numbers were not revealed, Apple claimed this year's devices are poised to sell more. This statement on Monday helped Apple shares climb a bit, though investors are cautious, The Wall Street Journal Reports.
According to Reuters, strong sales can be attributed to early introduction of new phones in China, which is set to become a market bigger than the US for Apple. Last year's iPhones were introduced with delay in the country as the company awaited nod of the regulators.
While analysts remain divided on whether Apple can beat the record set last year, the company feels there is enormous room for growth as not all iPhone users upgraded to the iPhone 6.
The Apple iPhone 6S was unveiled on September 9 along with its bigger 5.5-inch cousin, the iPhone 6S Plus. Apple began taking preorders on Saturday. Shipping commences September 25.
The 'S' variant of phones usually come with hardware upgrade but no design changes. This year's phones have more RAM, better processor and camera, besides introducing the 3D Touch feature in Apple's phones.
