LA Police Unveils Tiny Electric BMW Police Car
The Los Angeles Police Department added an exciting new BMW to its taskforce on Friday.
It's a black-and-white BMW i3. It will be a new cruiser for a year as part of Mayor Eric Garcetti's ambition for more plug-in cars in the police force.
"Today, we take another step toward becoming the most sustainable city in America," Garcetti said, according to USA Today. "This year, Los Angeles will become home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehicles anywhere in the country, and we will save taxpayer dollars along the way."
Perhaps the car cannot match high-speed chases, yet it would be powerful for covering 0 to 30 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
The car will also cover 81 miles per charge or 150 miles per charge, based on the model of the electric-powered car, according to the Daily Mail UK.
BMW has supplied 160 electric vehicles to LA, and will also be used by the fire department, water and power services, according to hngn.
The company has also lent an additional 128 plug-in hybrids to general services, according to Inside EVs.
