Subway Finds 'Serious' Complaint About Ex-Spokesman Jared Fogle
Subway had once got a "serious" complaint about ex-spokesman Jared Fogle, yet had not followed it up, as it did not involve "criminal sexual activity", it announced Friday.
Subway also clarified that it had completed an internal investigation to review whether it had been aware of the concerns about Fogle and his paedophillic activities, according to NBC Indiana affiliate WTHR.
The probe now involved reviewing over one million online comments and interviews with various employees, past and present, as well as managers who remained with the sandwich chain as well as an advertising fund.
Spokeswoman Kristen McMahon clarified that Subway had got a "serious" complaint from former Florida journalist Rochelle Herman-Walrond in 2011. Herman-Walrond worked with the FBI to record Fogle showing interest in having sexual relations with minors.
As soon as she got evidence she contacted Subway. However, as she said, the complaint "expressed concerns about Fogle," and with "nothing that implied anything about sexual behavior or criminal activity involving Fogle."
McMahon declined to comment on the nature of the complaint and said the company regrets the complaint was "not properly escalated or acted upon," according to the Associated Press.
When last month he confessed that he had paid for sex acts with girls as young as 16 and had received child pornography, Subway has severed ties with him.
The statement concluded: "It is important to note that the investigation found no further evidence of any other complaints of any kind regarding Mr. Fogle that were submitted to or shared with Subway," according to hngn.
