‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Update: Dakota Johnson Excited to work with James Foley
Dakota Johnson is very excited to start working with director James Foley on the highly anticipated sequel to "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Fifty Shades Darker."
Johnson, who plays the lead female character, Anastasia Steele, recently spoke with Empire while attending the Venice Film Festival. The 25-year-old actress was promoting her other films, "Black Mass" and "A Bigger Splash."
"It's quite exciting," she said. "There was a moment of being afraid, because I didn't know what it was going to be like. I had an experience with Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and then that all went away. Now I'm excited. I think James is a talented filmmaker. How often do you get to reconvene with the same people and have a different spin?"
Johnson also revealed that she has already met with Foley. When asked if the "House of Cards" director has a different approach from Taylor-Johnson, Johnson did not let anything spill.
"You'll just have to see when the movie comes out," she coyly said.
Taylor-Johnson directed the first movie in the erotica trilogy about a billionaire named Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) who tries to get Steele, a recent college graduate, to become his submissive. The movies are based from E.L. James' books with the same titles.
Taylor-Johnson decided to leave the franchise despite the movie's immense success in the box office. Rumors claimed that she and James had a lot of creative differences. The movie also did not get good reviews at all even though it brought in nearly $570 million worldwide.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is supposed to start filming in February contrary to the rumors about a potentially delay. These rumors claimed that Dornan wanted to start filming later so that he can have some time off to spend with his wife, Amelia Warner and daughter, Dulcie.
The screenplay for the movie was written by James' husband, Niall Leonard. It will be produced by produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is scheduled to be released in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
