Cruise Ship Passenger Awakens From Coma 2 Months After 115-foot Fall, Denies Suicide Bid
It was an amazing kind of resurrection. Laura Stuardo, who survived an "alleged suicide attempt", suddenly got up from her coma and denied that she had tried to commit suicide.
Stuardo, 53, a bank employee in northern Italy, clarified to the police that at some point in their cabin on the Costa Fortuna luxury cruise ship on July 19, she had been having an argument with her spouse, after which she suddenly fell, according to The Washington Post report.
She does not seem to remember how or what made her fall 115 feet, yet she is firm that it was certainly not suicide.
"I don't remember if he pushed me, but I certainly didn't want to commit suicide," she said, according to eCanadaNow. "It was an extremely long drop. I screamed, then there was the impact with the water. I don't remember anything else."
It is reported that her partner, 55-year-old Giovannia Pia, had tried to prevent the fall, but could not manage it.
Stuardo says that Pia had turned violent after he had damaged their car and returned home drunk.
Although the cruise was an attempt to improve things between them, Stuardo did not let him visit her in the hospital.
Her first husband visited her, and explained that he was not letting Pia in. He said that he had been giving attention to the "mother of his daughter" ever since she was undergoing treatment.
