Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Eagles Trade Matt Barkley, Tim Tebow to Make the Team? [Update]
Tim Tebow might make it on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster after all.
The Eagles announced that they have traded quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a seventh round draft pick only if Barkley remains on the Cardinals' roster for at least six games this season. With one quarterback gone, Tebow's chances of making it on the 53-man roster are a lot better.
The last time Tebow was on an NFL roster was toward the end of the 2012 season. In 2013, he was cut by the New England Patriots during training camp. After failing to sign with a team, Tebow began his broadcasting career. Despite working for the SEC Network, he still tried to make a return to the NFL.
In April of this year, Tebow signed with the Eagles. Throughout training camp, Tebow and Barkley were competing for the spot as the team's No. 3 quarterback, which Tebow seemed to have won especially after his performance against the New York Jets. In the preseason game, which the Eagles lost 24-18, Tebow completed 11 of 17 passes for 189 yards. He threw two touchdowns, one interception and ran for 32 yards on four carries.
During the preseason, the two quarterbacks had similar numbers with the exception of the fact that Tebow ran 14 times on 82 yards a touchdown. Overall, Tebow was 21 of 36 for 286 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Barkley was 27 for 52 for 351 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions.
All NFL teams must cut their roster to 53 by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
UPDATE:
Tim Tebow has reportedly been released by the Eagles.
