UK To Take In Thousands Of Syrian Refugees
Giving in to international pressure, UK Prime Minister agreed to demands exhorting Prime Minister David Cameron to take in more refugees from the Syrian war, especially when the images of a drowned Syrian boy went viral across the web, as covered by HNGN.
While the precise numbers and funding details are unknown, the funding has to be done by the government. It has bowed to pressure, says theguardian.
"We are taking thousands of people and we will take thousands of people," Cameron said. "What matters is that when they come they get a proper welcome and we look after them, and that is exactly what we'll do."
Tim Farron, the Liberal Democrat leader, believes that the Syrian refugee boy washing ashore is a sign that action needs to be taken now, according to The Independent.
"Enough is enough," he said. "These pictures are beyond horrific. They are the wake-up call David Cameron needs."
Despite Cameron bowing to international and domestic demands, he remains steadfast in his opinion that accepting Syrian refugees will do nothing but encourage more chaos. Instead, he believes that the answer to the problems will come from finding a political solution within Syria.
"We need a comprehensive solution, a new government in Libya, we need to deal with the problems in Syria," he said.
