NBA Rumors: Brandon Jennings Says he is Ok Playing Back Up
Brandon Jennings is okay being the back up point guard when he returns this year to the Detroit Pistons.
The Pistons had traded for Reggie Jackson three weeks after Jennings suffered a season-ending left Achilles tendon injury. The Pistons then signed Jackson to a five-year, $80 million contract in free agency this summer.
"Bringing in Reggie Jackson was smart. I'm supposed to be out, really, for nine months, and they need a point guard," Jennings, 26, said on "The Point Game Podcast," which is hosted by Jabari Young and Vincent Goodwill of Comcast SportsNet. "My main thing is just to get healthy. Hey, if I have to come off the bench and be the sixth man or whatever, I'm fine with that. Man, I just want to play basketball again. I just want to get back on the court and have fun."
Jennings added that even though he misses basketball, he will be taking his time to recover from his injury.
"I'm going to come back when I'm ready. I don't know if I'll be ready for training camp. I don't know for sure. But I'm definitely going to take my time through training camp and also through the preseason," he said. "I probably won't be back to myself until at least around December. That's for sure. You know, I haven't played in seven months."
Jennings, who is in the final year of his three-year, $24 million contract, has also been the subject of trade rumors. The rumors are claiming that the Pistons might trade him if they get off to a slow start this season. If he does not get traded before the February deadline, he is expected to be with a new team next season.
Jennings averaged 15.4 points and 6.6 assists in 41 games last season. He will be making $8.34 million this season.
