Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj Twitter Feud: Miley Cyrus Slams Minaj for Making it About Herself
Miley Cyrus has weighed in on the recent Twitter feud between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj. While speaking with the New York Times, Cyrus stated that Minaj's tweet in regards to being snubbed of a VMA (video music award) was "not too kind."
"What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It's not very polite. I think there's a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don't have to start this pop star against pop star war," the 22-year-old "Adore You" singer said. "It became Nicki Minaj and Taylor in a fight, so now the story isn't even on what you wanted it to be about. Now you've just given E! News 'Catfight! Taylor and Nicki Go at It.'"
After the VMA nominations were announced, Minaj, who did not get nominated for music video of the year, had tweeted several messages that read:
"If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well."
"When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination."
"If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year."
Swift, 25, who music video "Bad Blood" broke a Vevo record and featured a lot of skinny and tall women, felt like she was the target of Minaj's tweets. Swift, who has nine nominations, tweeted back:
"I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot."
Minaj then claimed that the messages were not about Swift at all. The "Wildest Dreams" singer then apologized. The two have since made up.
Even though the feud has been put to bed, Cyrus was asked about her opinions in regards to Minaj's comments.
"I didn't follow it. You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to - that's a yoga mantra. People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don't respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. And it's not anger like, 'Guys, I'm frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.' You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that's like, 'Eh, I didn't get my V.M.A.'"
Cyrus will be hosting the 2015 VMAs this Sunday, Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.
