NFL Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers to Meet with Michael Vick
Free-agent quarterback Michael Vick might be playing in the NFL this season after all.
Sources informed ESPN.com's Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson that the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a backup quarterback after their No. 2 option, Bruce Gradkowski, dislocated a finger in his left hand during the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Gradkowski is scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss three to four weeks.
If the Steelers sign a deal with Vick, he would be backing up Ben Roethlisberger, who is the team's starting quarterback without a doubt. The Steelers currently have Landry Jones as their other full-time quarterback.
Vick, 35, played in 10 games overall last season with the New York Jets. He completed 64 of 121 passes for 604 yards and threw three touchdowns with two interceptions.
During last month, when Vick still did not sign with an NFL team, he indicated on Twitter that he would still be staying in shape. He had tweeted, "Stay fresh stay focused stay #READY." The tweet was posted alongside a video of Vick running drills.
Vick almost reunited with his Jets coach Rex Ryan, who is now the head coach for the Buffalo Bills. Ryan stated, however, that he changed his mind because of the troubles that Vick has with bad weather.
"And Mike will tell you, he's not built really [to be] a bad-weather quarterback," Ryan had said to NBC Sports Radio. "He doesn't have great big hands, and the weather affects him some. And he'd be the first one to tell you."
Vick will be visiting the Steelers on Tuesday.
