Graco recalls 4 million strollers following accidental 'thumb aputation'
Baby product manufacturer Graco has released a recall of more than 4.5 million strollers, in response to reports of children getting their fingers amputated. The folding hinge on the sides of the strollers can pinch a child's finger.
The strollers were made between August 2000 and September 14, 2014, and sold through November 19 at numerous stores nationwide including Target, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Amazon and other online retailers.
Owners are told to contact Graco "immediately" to get a free repair kit and, before the kit comes, to "exercise extreme care" when unfolding and using the stroller.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said it received 11 reports of injury, including six of fingertip amputation, four of partial fingertip amputation and one of finger laceration.
The following models are included in the recall: Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, LiteRider, Sierra, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate Model Strollers and Travel Systems.
If you have one of the recalled models, Graco is offering a repair kit which will be available starting in December. Until you receive the kit, customers are urged to use extreme care when unfolding the stroller.
You can contact Graco Children's Products at (800) 345-4109 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. You can also contact the company online at www.gracobaby.com.
"You can continue using your stroller until the repair kit can be installed," advises the Graco hotline. "You should exercise extreme care when unfolding the stroller, to be certain that the folding hinges on the sides are securely locked before placing a child in the stroller."
