NBA Rumors: New York Knicks Need Jamal Crawford

The New York Knicks have reportedly joined in on the fray for veteran Jamal Crawford. Crawford, who is with the Los Angeles Clippers, has been the subject of several trade rumors throughout the offseason.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat are the other two teams that are reportedly interested in 35-year-old shooting guard.

The New York Daily News reported that the Knicks are interested in boosting their offense by adding the two-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year. Crawford, who played for the Knicks during the beginning of his long career, is reportedly a fan of the organization. He also still has very close ties with the Garden chairman James Dolan and the former team President, Isiah Thomas, who now runs the Liberty.

If the Knicks really want Crawford, they will most likely have to add a third team to the mix and use the trade exception they acquired from Cleveland.

Crawford averaged 15.8 points, 2.5 assist and 1.9 rebounds in 26.6 minutes during the 2014-15 season. Although he was a key player for the Clippers coming off of the bench, the team has rebuilt their bench significantly this offseason. The Clippers added Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, Lance Stephenson and Pablo Prigioni. They also resigned DeAndre Jordan. With these additions, the Clippers no longer need Crawford as much.

He has played for six teams over the span of 15 seasons.

Crawford will hit free agency on July 1, 2016. His salary for this season is $5.675 million.
