New York Yankees Pitcher CC Sabathia on Hecklers: I ‘Just Flipped Out’

New York Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia was almost involved in a physical brawl on the streets of Toronto early Saturday morning, just 10 hours before the Yankees were going to play the Blue Jays at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Sabathia was caught on camera shouting at hecklers outside of EFS Nightclub in the entertainment district. The 6'7" pitcher had to be restrained from getting into a physical altercation with his harassers. TMZ has published the video clip. Sabathia, who was wearing bright red sneakers, was pointing and yelling at someone before his friends got him into a cab.

Sabathia has spoken out about the situation, stating that he made a "bad decision" in responding to the "heckling and screaming."

"I just flipped out, ya know. I could have handled it better. But I had my cousin and my friends there with me. He helped me out a lot," said Sabathia. "I think I was definitely lucky the other night, though, that I had friends to push me in a cab and cared enough about me to get me out of that situation."

He added, "It happens. You don't hide. I go out all the time - I go to dinner, I do different things. Sometimes it's a bad night. They caught me at a bad time. They got a bad reaction."

Sabathia said that he was glad he got out of the situation fast. He informed Yankees manager Joe Girardi about the video clip on Monday.

After Sabathia left the scene, a larger brawl broke out. In another video, one man can be seen getting thrown into the street. The Toronto police stated that they were called for a fight but since no one has come forward with any allegations, there is no case.

"We were called for a fight. That's our entertainment district, where all the clubs are. By the time (Toronto Police) got there, everyone had dispersed," Victor Kwong , the police media relations officer, said, "There's been no one who has come forward to allege anything. For us, it's a nothing call."

Sabathia, who is 4-9 with a 5.23 ERA, will be starting Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Twins.
