Miami Heat Rumors: Heat looking to sign Veteran Carlos Boozer

The Miami Heat are reportedly interested in signing veteran free agent Carlos Boozer, Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel reported.

Although the Heat already have a lot of frontline players, like Amar'e Stoudemire, Josh McRoberts, Udonis Haslem and Chris Anderson, they can trade away some of them, particularly Anderson who has $5 million left on his expiring contract, and add Boozer for luxury tax reasons. Winderman stressed that the Heat would only sign Boozer, 33, if they can trade away one of the other players.

Mario Chalmers is reportedly on the trading block as well especially after the Heat signed a max contract with Goran Dragic. Chalmers is making $4.3 million and also has an expiring contract.

Trading away Anderson and Chalmers could be a hard feat due to their contracts. However, rumors are reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers could be tempted to trade for Chalmers. The Lakers' first-round draft D'Angelo Russell could potentially benefit from having Chalmers, who is a two-time champion, as a mentor.

Boozer reportedly has not drawn much interest from other teams but can still put up numbers. The 13-year veteran averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers this past season. Throughout his career, Boozer averaged 15.2 points and 9.5 rebounds.

If Boozer ends up in Miami, he will be coming off of a deep bench behind starters Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Dragic. He would be adding versatility to the team as well.

The Heat currently have 15 player on their roster.
