The launch of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on September 9 is now a foregone conclusion. Latest rumors suggest that Apple may launch a cheaper iPhone 6c.

Apple Insider reports that the company may launch iPhone 6c as a repackaged iPhone 6, replete with a new metal design and with multiple color options. This move would make way for iPhone 6s as the company's flagship device. This strategy was first implemented when Apple launched the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in 2013.

iPhone 6c rumors also gained traction after Apple's recent upgrade of iPod Touch with aluminum case in six colors.

Noted tipster Evan Blass too tweeted about an impending iPhone 6c.

"Sounds like iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and 6c will all arrive concurrently," Blass tweeted to his handle @evleaks.

Techradar reported sightings of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in its data logs. Fiksu, a marketing firm, claimed that Apple is testing two new versions of the iPhone that were not seen before in its data logs. There was no indication that a third device was being tested.

That however is not the end of the road for iPhone 6c. The device could be masquerading as a previous generation iPhone given that the iPhone 5c was based on a previous year's model, the iPhone 5.
