NBA Trade Rumors: Jamal Crawford Wants to Play in Cleveland
The Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers continued to have talks about a potential trade for shooting guard Jamal Crawford, several reports are claiming. Crawford, according to Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com, would like to play for the Cavaliers.
"I know Jamal personally, and I know he would definitely like to be a part of the Cavaliers' organization," Haynes said. "Jamal is one guy off the top of my head that I know would be a fit, and I know that they'll be looking at him...They want to use that exception for a wing player."
Crawford, who has previously stated that he wished he were a free agent, has never said that he was unhappy with the Clippers. However, since the Clippers have Austin Rivers, Lance Stephenson and Pablo Prigioni coming off of the bench, they might not need Crawford anymore. Throughout the offseason, the veteran has been the subject of many trade rumors.
A trade would save the Clippers $16,180,533 - $5,675,000 in salary and $10,505,533 in projected luxury-tax payments, Pro Basketball Talk reported.
Crawford, who was one of the more reliable shooters off of the bench for the Clippers, averaged 15.8 points this past season. In the postseason, he played in 14 games and averaged 12.7 points. He could add more depth to the Cavaliers roster.
The Cavaliers reportedly would push harder for Crawford if they fail to re-sign free agent, J.R. Smith, who has gotten interest from the Philadelphia Sixers. Sam Amico with FOXSports.com reported, however, that even though the Sixers have expressed interest, the Cavaliers are determined to bring Smith back.
