Pittsburgh Steelers Rumors: Kicker Shaun Suisham Injures Knee

The Pittsburgh Steelers might be out of a good kicker at the start of the season.

Coach Mike Tomlin revealed that Shaun Suisham suffered a "potentially significant" left knee injury after playing in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings won 14-3.

"I don't have any more information at this time," Tomlin said after the game. "We're going to evaluate him."

The 33-year-old veteran left the game and limped to the locker room after the opening kickoff in the second half. He reportedly had his knee heavily wrapped before leaving the locker room in crutches.

Suisham had tackled Marcus Sherels after the kickoff. The tackle, according to several media outlets, was unnecessary.

"I hadn't talked to him, so I'm not going to speculate," Tomlin said (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) in regards to whether or not Suisham is too aggressive on the field. Suisham does not typically shy away from contact.

During the 2014 season, Suisham made 29-of 32 field goal attempts (90.6 percent). His near perfect season tied for fifth best in the NFL. Suisham has also made all of his past 32 attempts from the 40 to 49 yard line since 2012, which is the longest active streak in the NFL.

In his five years with the Steelers, he is an 87.9 percent kicker, which is a franchise best. In his career, Suisham is an 84.1 percent kicker.

Suisham was not the only Steeler to go down during Sunday's game. Tomlin stated that running back Cameron Stingily also sustain a "potentially serious" knee injury. Stingily recorded 11 caries in the first half and rushed for 18 yards.

The Steelers will open their season against the New England Patriots on Thursday Sept. 19.
