Report: Blackhawks Patrick Kane is being investigated in a Rape Case
Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane is reportedly the main subject of a rape investigation opened by Hamburg police, Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reported.
According to two sources from the law enforcement, a woman has accused the hockey player of "sexual assault" that began at a bar in Evans, NY over the last weekend. The sources added that the victim went to the hospital and received a rape test. Kane, who has a home in Hamburg, NY, has not been charged with any crime.
The News also reported that another police agency has been asked to help on the case. That agency has revealed that the prosecutor assigned to the case will be Roseanne Johnson, who is the chief of the Erie County District Attorney's Special Victims Bureau.
Kane has not addressed the rape claims.
"We are aware of the police investigation and are following developments," the NHL's Frank Brown, group vice president of communications, said.
Since there have been no charges filed, the police stated that there will be no comments until further notice.
"We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime," the Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett said.
Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said, along the same lines, "We neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of an investigation until such time as someone has been charged with a crime."
Kane had one run-in with the law back in 2009 when he got into an altercation with a cab driver while in Buffalo. Kane pleaded guilty and did not serve any jail time.
