On August 5, 1914, the first electric traffic signal was installed on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland, Ohio, according to ndtv.

The first installation of traffic lights was the hand-powered predecessor, unveiled outside Parliament in 1868. It was followed by the electric version half a century later, though the inventor is disputed.

You can read about the history of the traffic lights in theindependent.

Google has put up a black and white doodle with the red-green lights of the traffic signal. There are vintage cars---three on both ends---that drive down with the alphabets 'GOOGLE' on them, and then follow the signals.

There are also two lanes to add depth to the doodle, while sketches of smaller, compact houses form the backdrop.

By clicking on it, you go to a search page that shows you "when was the first traffic light installed", along with links and answers to the questions.

It was in 1912 that the first electric traffic light was developed by Lester Wire, a policeman in Salt Lake City, Utah. He used red-green lights. On 5 August 1914, the American Traffic Signal Company installed a signal system on the corner of East 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio.
