The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hoping to sign a contract extension with their quarterback, Sam Bradford. The contract negotiations will most likely result in a short-term deal, ESPN's Ed Werder reported.

Bradford, who the Eagles got from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles, is currently the team's starting quarterback despite his history of injuries. Bradford is coming off of his second ACL injury in his career. He missed a good portion of the last two seasons. However, Kelly is optimistic that Bradford can provide the best kind of offense for the Eagles.

"Peyton Manning switched teams because of an injury," head coach Chip Kelly said. "Drew Brees switched teams because of an injury. So we went down that path."

Kelly has Bradford taking the first-team reps during training camp with Mark Sanchez playing backup. The other two quarterbacks who are competing for snaps are Tim Tebow and Matt Barkley.

In 2013, Bradford started seven games and went 159-for-262 with a quarterback rating of a 90.9. Bradford's debut season was impressive. He completed 354 passes for 3,512 yards and 18 touchdowns. His best season was in 2012 when he completed 328 passes for 3,702 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Bradford, who was the first overall pick in 2010, has one year left on his 6-year, $78 million contract. He is due $12.95 for this upcoming season and will cost $16.58 million against the Eagles' salary cap, making him the highest paid player on the team this year.
