Kate Middleton Achieves Advanced Diver Qualification
Kate Middleton has recently been granted the Advanced Open Water Diver qualification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) in lieu of her pursuit to share Prince William's passion for scuba diving.
According to The Telegraph, the certificate means that the Duchess of Cambridge has been able to dive up to 30 metres (98ft) feet underwater giving her the confidence to join the Duke of Cambridge in his deep dives with his family in the haunt for sharks in Mustique.
Prince William is this year's president of the British Sub-Aqua Club as he follows Prince Charles footsteps who have been encouraging him to develop the love for scuba diving.
"Diving is something the Duchess very much enjoys, and the Duke of Cambridge, who is of course president of the BSAC, has said in the past that he is hopeful his children will become interested in the sport," the Royal couple's spokesperson said.
In able to qualify for the Advanced Open Water Diver qualification, one must successfully perform five dives including must-do deep and underwater navigation dives that are risky to the diver who might encounter the symptoms of decompression sickness, Mail Online said.
The sickness, known as 'the bends' can be fatal due to the formation of nitrogen bubbles in the diver's blood formed when he returned to the surface.
The diver must also be equipped with fine tune compass navigation skills that will make navigation a more pleasant experience with the effective use of kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
Middleton has also underwent trainings in photography, buoyancy control, fish identification and exploring wrecks as part of the diving course.
Entrepreneur and fellow diver, Kelly Fisher Katz, had the chance to be with Kate Middleton and Prince William while she is vacationing near the Caribbean. She commended the couple's sportsmanship in diving, E! Online reported.
"We went diving and they went very deep. Our instructor said [my husband] and I weren't qualified to go on the shark dives that they went on," she said.
