Ashley Madison Hack Update: Opportunistic Spammers Exploit Dating Site Leak

Following the Ashley Madison hacking incident, spammers are reportedly capitalizing on the situation that has led to the proliferation of spam links containing fraudulent pages, fake data malware on the internet.

Computer security blogger Brian Krebs exposed the attack last month in which the hackers allegedly obtained details of 37 million users from the infidelity site.

Krebs suspects that the hackers were able to get only a portion of the details and are threatening to expose the users if the company refuses to shut down the site.

However, Avid Life Media, owner of Ashley Madison has managed to remove shared data by the hackers and have said that no new information has since been posted online.

Spammers on their part have posted links on sites like Slexy and Pastebin with claims that the links contain information on users who have used the Ashley Madison site.

It should be noted that most of the email id's and passwords posted on these links have been shared since 2011.

Pastebin head Jeroen Vader said, "Spammers will always try to abuse any trend to get some free exposure, and this Ashley Madison leak is no exception."

"It is hard for us to remove everything, but we do actively search for such posts."
