Floyd Mayweather Next Fight: Amir Khan wants to take down the Undefeated Champion

Floyd Mayweather's next and possibly final fight of his career will be between two lesser-known boxers, Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield. While many are already reporting that he has chosen Berto, others are still wondering if no. 49 will be Mayweather's last.

When the undefeated champion made this announcement, many were shocked at how easy the last fight could be for Mayweather. However, after he defeated Manny Pacquiao in the epic May 2 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, there are not that many boxers left who can really challenge him.

After the fight, which will go down on Sept. 12, Mayweather will supposedly be retiring.

"I want to give other fighters a chance," he had said. "I'm not greedy. I'm fortunate to be a champion in two weight classes right now. I'm the undisputed welterweight champion. I have the WBC and WBA belt at super welterweight. I have the WBO, WBA and WBC at 147. It's time to let other fighters fight for the belts."

The September fight is also the last one on his six-fight, 30-month contract with Showtime and CBS. Although this fight will not be as hyped up as the previous one, it can potentially be worth up to $250 million.

Two-time world champion Amir Khan believes that this fight will not be Mayweather's last one.

"People say Mayweather's fighting [Andre] Berto. Is it a good opponent for him or is it just getting that contract out the way, having that 49th fight and getting it out the way? But why end his career on a low note? People remember you for your last fight. Why does he want to match Rocky Marciano's record when he can beat it? I hope that it goes the way that there's a 50th fight." Khan said to Sports360.

Khan believes that he would be a good opponent for Mayweather's 50th fight. However, he is not sweating the details since he will have an exciting 2016.

"Bob Arum has contacted my team to fight Manny Pacquiao around March or April in Dubai. Let's see how that develops... Since Floyd is running scared, I want Pacquiao in 2016 when he is back from his injury; 2016 will be Amir Khan's year; you will see me in two of the biggest fights in that year," Khan told The National.

Although many believe that Berto will not be Mayweather's last opponent, they do not have Khan on the top of the list. According to ESPN.com's Stephen A. Smith, Mayweather will be fighting Pacquiao soon after his Berto fight.

"I've never believed [Mayweather was going to retire in September]. I don't believe that. I think Mayweather knows that," Smith said. "I think Mayweather is using this [fight with Berto] as a tuneup, and then he's going to give Manny Pacquiao a rematch. It's almost one of those things where it's a tuneup, it's going to be perceived as a cake-walk in a lot of people's eyes. And he's like, 'I'm Money Mayweather, I'm giving you me on free TV. You don't have to pay for it at all. It's a tuneup similar to what Manny Pacquiao did to Chris Algieri. And then I'm going to come out of retirement and I'll fight a Manny Pacquiao, or a Miguel Cotto if Cotto is lucky enough to beat Canelo Alvarez.'"

Only time will tell what Mayweather has planned for his future.
