‘Doctor Strange’ Rumors: Rachel McAdams to Play Female Lead?
Will Rachel McAdams sign on to star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel's upcoming film, "Doctor Strange?"
The "True Detective" actress confirmed that she was in talks with the studio for the role as the female lead, according to Variety. The character that McAdams is being eyed for is still unknown.
"It's still super-early days, and I don't know where that's gonna go, if it's gonna go anywhere at all," McAdams said to the Los Angeles Times last week.
According to the LA Times' Amy Kaufman, McAdams might have another character in mind.
Kaufman tweeted McAdams' full response in regards to playing the female lead in "Doctor Strange." McAdams said: "I'm certainly not a comic book snob. I really enjoy them and reading them, I think the Doctor Strange franchise is really interesting and Benedict is amazing. And I love graphic novels. I love that they are coming to light. I always wanted to make 'Black Orchid.' It's a tough one. But the fact that Doctor Strange is happening makes me think there's hope for more Neil Geiman out there."
The comicbook movie will be directed by Scott Derrickson. Kevin Feige will be producing. The script was written by Jon Spaihts.
Cumberbatch, known for his roles in "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Imitation Game," will be playing Stephen Vincent Strange, a former brain surgeon who takes on the role as the next Sorcerer Supreme. Strange protects the Earth against magical and mystical threats.
Cumberbatch, who is naturally lean, reportedly has been bulking up for this role. The Daily Mail is claiming that the British actor has increased his daily caloric intake and has included protein shakes into his diet as well as a personal trainer.
Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also onboard to star in the movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 6, 2016.
In the meantime, McAdams can be seen in the boxing drama, "Southpaw," opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.
