NBA Free Agent Rumors: Rockets, Knicks and Mavericks want Carlos Boozer

The Houston Rockets, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks are all reportedly trying to land free agent Carlos Boozer, according to Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops.

The 33-year-old power forward averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers this past season.

The Rockets are planning on adding another power forward to fill Josh Smith's spot. Smith signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. They already have Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas.

For the Knicks, having a veteran shooter can be helpful. The team, who relies heavily on star Carmelo Anthony, is still rebuilding and could use a short-term answer. Although Boozer is no longer the same player as he once was with the Utah Jazz, his aggressiveness can make him effective in the pick-and-roll.

Matt Verderame of Fansided wrote:

"Boozer would give New York a solid rebounder and someone to help teach some of the younger kids on the squad a few tricks in the pros. Additionally, Boozer will not be expensive. With his career obviously winding down, the Knicks won't have to blow a ton of cap space to get some immediate help. Furthermore, this would not likely be a long-term commitment, keeping free-agency dollars open for the 2016 offseason and beyond."

The Mavericks are also looking to add players after losing out on DeAndre Jordan. Jordan had verbally agreed to sign with the Mavericks once he hit free agency but reneged on the deal. Jordan ended up signing with his previous team, the Clippers.

Boozer was selected in the second round by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2002 out of Duke University. Aside from the three teams mentioned before, Boozer has also played for the Chicago Bulls.
