NBA Free Agent Rumors: Five Top Free Agents Yet to be Signed
Although the top free agents, such as LaMarcus Aldridge, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love and DeAndre Jordan, have all been signed, the offseason is far from over. There are still many free agents left on the market. Here are five of the top players left without a team so far.
1. Tristan Thompson
Tristan Thompson, who shined in the playoffs after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost Love to a shoulder injury, is a restricted free agent, which means that the Cavaliers can match any offer he gets from other teams. Although the Cavaliers and Thompson have not agreed on a deal yet, the rumors are claiming that one will be worked out very soon.
Earlier rumors reported that the two agreed to a five-year deal worth around $80 million. However, that contract was never signed. Thompson can expect offers from the Portland Trail Blazers and the Philadelphia 76ers, who are two teams that have enough cap space to challenge the Cavaliers. If the Cavaliers do match, Thompson, who LeBron James is a fan of, is expected to stay.
Thompson could also agree to a one-year deal and enter free agency next summer.
2. J.R. Smith
J.R. Smith is another free agent that is expected to resign with the Cavaliers. Although the two have been in talks, no deal has been worked out yet. Smith, who was fairly good last season, could sign a one-year deal and become a free agent after the 2015-16 season.
3. Jason Terry
Veteran Jason Terry is reportedly close to re-signing a deal with the Houston Rockets. The 37-year-old shooting guard who entered the league back in 1999 had a good bounce-back year this past season after failing to contribute much the year before when he was with the Brooklyn Nets.
4. Kevin Seraphin
For a while, there were rumors stating that the Los Angeles Lakers were eyeing Seraphin. After more time has past, the back-up center's future is currently unclear. However, finding a team should not be difficult for the 25-year-old. The Washington Wizards could bring him back.
5. Glen Davis
Glen Davis, known as Big Baby, might not have a spot with the LA Clippers anymore. The Clippers have been working on adding depth to their bench this offseason. Although they have added more players, keeping Davis around would be an advantage for them.
However, it is also unclear where Davis will be playing next season. Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reported that the Milwaukee Bucks have shown interest.
