‘Winds of Winter’ Release Date: George R.R. Martin Wants to Release Book Soon, Eyeing March date?
The highly anticipated sixth novel in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, "Winds of Winter," could be released early next year.
According to the rumors, Martin is allegedly planning on completing and launching the book before the season 6 premiere of "Games of Thrones," the TV adaptation of the book that airs on HBO. Although there is no release date for the hit series, the seasons tend to air in mid-March to early April, which means that the book could be released anytime beforehand.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in April, Martin told fans that he was focused solely on completing the book.
"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews-anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done," Martin said before adding that he has been contemplating on whether or not to add a twist for one of the major characters.
He said, "This is going to drive your readers crazy but I love it. I'm still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It's a great twist."
The author also explained that his busy schedule with the HBO Show as well as book signings hurt his writing process.
"I was red hot on the book and I put it aside for six months I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well. I should have just gone on from there, because I was so into it and it was moving so fast then," Martin said. "But I didn't because I had to switch gears into the editing phase and then the book tour. The iron does cool off, for me especially."
Fans are hoping that the latest rumors about the book are true. The TV show's plotlines have reached up to the end of book 5, "A Dance of Dragons." Without another book, the show's writers could end up determining the fate of the characters. However, it is important to note that the show has already deviated from the books quite a lot.
After "Winds of Winder," Martin should have one more book left to write for his series.
