Chinese smartphone maker One Plus is expected to debut the all new OnePlus 2 smartphone later today at around 7pm PT.

Just hours ahead of unveiling the release date, fans got to see a slew of images of the newly designed phone.

So far the company has confirmed that the device will run on latest version of the Oxygen OS. The OnePlus 2 will feature a 5.5 inch HD display that is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. The all metal handset also comes with a 13 MP rear camera, 3300mAh battery and a finger print sensor that is being touted to be even 'faster' than the sensor of the iPhone.

According to company's blog post, "The OnePlus 2 was not created to compete with the flagship from 2015. We're more interested in looking further into the future. This is the 2016 Flagship Killer. With it, you'll be ahead of the curve, future-proof. And we wouldn't want you to expect anything less from OnePlus."

The release date meanwhile still remains a mystery. However as per multiple reports from China, the phone is expected to be released on August 8th.

The OnePlus 2 invite page has gone live and all users need to go through the invite system if they plan on buying one.

"You can get an invite from friends who have purchased a OnePlus 2 already, or by participating in our contests and promotions," says OnePlus. "For notifications about our contests and invites, subscribe to our newsletter, join our community on the forums, or follow us on social media."
