Miami Heat Trade Rumors: Mario Chalmers being Shopped
The Miami Heat are reportedly shopping their two-time NBA Champion point guard, Mario Chalmers.
Miami Herald's Barry Jackson stated that Chalmers is the main guy that the Heat want to trade but 24-year-old Shabazz Napier is also on the trading block.
Jackson wrote:
"A general manager with another NBA team told me Mario Chalmers and Shabazz Napier are the players the Heat has been most aggressive in shopping, with Miami preferring to move Chalmers because of his $4.3 million salary. The GM said the Heat would be content getting back only a second-round pick [or less] for Chalmers. Though Chris Anderson could be moved, the GM said the Heat hasn't offered him to his team, and that Miami hasn't shown an inclination to move Josh McRoberts."
Chalmers, who performed well when the Heat had the trio - LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, was moved to the bench this past season. Chalmers only shot 24.9 percent from the three-point line this sesaon, which is a huge decline from the 37.3 percent rate that he was shooting over his first six years in the league.
When asked about the trade rumors, Chalmers said to KUSports.com, "It's part of the business. For me, I don't really think about it. I try to control what I can control, and I'm just working on me and my game. I would definitely love to stay in Miami. I think we have a good chance this year to go all the way. It's just bringing everything together."
Moving Chalmers would make a lot of sense for the Heat, who signed point guard, Goran Dragic, to a five-year, $90 million contract. If no trade gets done, Chalmers will have another shot to prove to Miami that he can be a valuable asset.
Chalmers averaged 10.2 points and 3.8 assists.
