Bill Cosby Update: Comedian to Testify on Sexual Assault Case in California
Bill Cosby, who has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting dozens of women, could be forced to testify on a sexual assault case in California.
The State Supreme Court has cleared the way for the sexual assault case against Cosby to move to litigation after denying the comedian's petition to review the case. The civil suit, filed by Judith Huth last year, will now head into the trial phase.
Huth's attorney, Gloria Allred stated, according to CNN, that they plan scheduling a deposition for Cosby within the next 30 days.
"We believe we have a right to take his deposition in this civil lawsuit. We are going to tomorrow provide him with dates in August when we are available to do that," Allred told KNX Newsradio on Wednesday. "We are willing to even go to Massachusetts where allegedly he resides and take it."
In the suit, Huth claims that Cosby had sexually molested her when she was 15-years-old at the Playboy Mansion in 1974. She stated that the star invited her and her 16-year-old friend to his tennis club after they met while he was filming a movie at Lacy Park in Los Angeles. He allegedly offered them alcoholic beverages even though they told him their ages.
Huth added that they "played a game of billiards," which required her "to consume a beer every time Cosby won." The suit then stated that Cosby took them to the Playboy Mansion, where he molested her in a bedroom.
"He then proceeded to sexually molest her by attempting to put his hand down her pants, and then taking her hand in his hand and performing a sex act on himself without her consent," the suit claims.
Huth is one of more than 20 women who have come forward with allegations against Cosby. Her case is not related to the 2005 case involving Andrea Constand. Cosby's four-day deposition for that case, which is nearly 1,000 pages long, was recently released.
Cosby has admitted to giving the powerful sedative, Quaalude, to women before engaging in sexual activities. Cosby, however, claims that the women knew what they were taking and that he never slipped it into their drinks.
He also is denying all allegations that he raped them.
