Kim Kardashian Pregnancy Update: Pregnant Star Lambasted Online for Endorsing Morning Sickness Pill
Kim Kardashian managed to promote the drug, Diclegis, a prescription drug said to have curbed the stressful symptoms of morning sickness.
On Monday, the 34-year old reality TV star posed on Instagram while holding a bottle of the drug, Mirror said.
"OMG. Have you heard about this? As you guys know my #morningsickness has been pretty bad. I tried changing things about my lifestyle, like my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor. He prescribed me #Diclegis, I felt a lot better and most importantly, it's been studied and there was no increased risk to the baby. I'm so excited and happy with my results that I'm partnering with Duchesnay USA to raise awareness about treating morning sickness. If you have morning sickness, be safe and sure to ask your doctor about the pill with the pregnant woman on it and find out more www.diclegis.com; www.DiclegisImportantSafetyInfo.com," she wrote.
The post, however, did not make a handful of her followers happy.
One user wrote, "Wow. How much did they pay to do this ad?"
Another follower added: "Morning sickness is normal and does''t need awareness being raised about it. This is just cash for comment.
"They said the exact same thing about thalidomide! Then, look what happened down the road. Diclegis was taken off the market 30 years ago because of lawsuits filed re birth defects being caused by the drug. The pharma company went back to the FDA now and said Diclegis causes the same defects as the normal baseline which is 1 in 33 babies born with defects. WHY take the chance that your precious baby just might be that one? Everything a pregnant woman eats, drinks, smokes, or pills they take goes to that fetus. KK is rich. She can sit at home and in bed and not have to worry about losing her job or caring for her other child, unlike too many other pregnant women who live in the real world," one user who has seen the post from Huffington Post said.
According to New York Daily News, Diclegis was once sold using the brand name, Benedictin, a drug alleged to have caused birth defects and was pulled out from the market in 1983.
Although, there were no reported cases that Benedictin had, indeed, caused the defects, but a similar previous drug, Thalidomide, has marred the reputation of its company Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals.
The news source further said that Diclegis is entirely made of a different composition from its predecessors.
"She did people a very big favor - Diclegis is quite safe. It is the only antinausea medication approved for use in pregnancy by the FDA," says Dr. Jill Maura Rabin, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine referring to Kim's recent endorsement.
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian keeps her fans updated her followers about her pregnancy announcing on July 19 that she has gained 20 pounds in 20 weeks, US Magazine said.
"Went to the Dr today for a check up, guess I was off on my 20 week mark by a week or two... But not the 20 lbs LOL," Kanye West's wide posted.
