‘Fast and Furious 8’ Cast Update: Eva Mendes, Helen Mirren and Ruby Rose Joining the Franchise?
"Fast and Furious 8" will be welcoming more female roles. According to the latest rumors, the eighth installment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise will feature Eva Mendes, Helen Mirren and Ruby Rose.
Mendes would be reprising her role as Special Agent Monica Fuentes, who showed up in "2 Fast 2 Furious. " She will reportedly be involved in a love triangle with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez). Rumors of her return has been circulating for months.
British actress Mirren will be on the side of the villains. Her character will most likely team up with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in the upcoming movie. Executive producer Diesel was more than willing to add a role for Mirren after she publicly stated that she would love to star as a super villain in one of the Fast and Furious movies.
Statham has already confirmed that he will be returning.
"We're already talking about doing another one, part eight," Statham, 47, told Access Hollywood. "I'm a newcomer, I just got invited to the party in this last one, so it's nice to know I'm going to be doing another. They've always got something good up their sleeves. I don't want to be the one who spoils everything!"
He added, "But there is some great stuff that I already know about."
Rose, who gained widespread fame for playing Stella Carlin on the Netflix original series, "Orange is the New Black," said on The Today Show that she has been talking with the "Fast and Furious 8" creative team about a potential role. She also revealed that she was not casted in "Furious 7" due to her resemblance to Justin Bieber.
"My last audition before Orange was for Fast And Furious 7. But they didn't want me because one of the main guys said I looked like Justin Bieber!" she said. "It's so funny because now I'm in talks with that movie and I haven't mentioned to them that I know [they turned my down because I looked like Justin]."
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and newcomer Kurt Russell are all set to return as well. Universal Studios have not announced a director yet. The movie will be set in New York.
The untitled "Fast and Furious 8" is scheduled to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
