HTC Veteran Confirms Lollipop Update For GPE Handsets Next Week
HTC's Mo Versi has revealed in a tweet that the company is planning to roll-out Google's latest Android Lollipop to Google Play Edition devices starting next week.
The latest update to Google's dominant mobile OS, Android Lollipop, is getting a lot of attention lately. Several mobile users are anticipating the software's release but timeline details aren't concrete. The latest update on Lollipop rollout comes from a HTC veteran, confirming the release of the software for the Google Play Edition (GPE) devices starting next week, Android Central reported.
The maker of the software, Google, itself missed the update's release for its Nexus lineup while Motorola took the lead by updating second-gen Moto G smartphone. On the other hand, smartphone vendors like Samsung, LG and others have been mum on the subject. With HTC's confirmation on the roll-out of Lollipop, other companies are likely to follow the feat.
The news of Lollipop update for HTC GPE handsets was shared via Twitter in a reply to a HTC user's anticipation.
So far, the devices that have been officially confirmed to receive the Lollipop update include Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7 (both versions) and Nexus 9 in the Google's portfolio. Motorola has confirmed the update for Moto E, Moto G, Moto X and Droid Turbo. HTC confirmed the release of Lollipop to most of its devices within a 90-day time-frame, which includes devices such as HTC one, One M8, One Mini, One Mini 2, One Max and the GPE editions of One and M8.
Samsung, LG and Sony are widely expected to release Lollipop update to most of its flagship and latest handsets launched in 2013 and this year. The time frame for these handsets is not confirmed but may extend anywhere from later this year to beginning of 2015, according to media reports.
