2015 MLB All-Star Game: White Sox Chris Sale will Pitch Despite Manager’s Concern
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale will be pitching in Tuesday's All-Star game despite manager Robin Ventura's concerns.
"I'm going to pitch him," Kansas City Royals manager, Ned Yost, who will be heading the American League team, said during a radio interview. "I've talked to Robin. We're OK. He's definitely going to pitch in the game."
Sale will most likely be pitching one inning, but Yost jokingly said that if he could, he would let Sale pitch six or seven innings.
Just one day before it was announced that Sale was going to pitch, Ventura stated that he would prefer that his starter rest.
"It would be nice (for him to rest), definitely," Ventura said. "He is (our only representative). But I also want him to pitch for us for the rest of the year too."
Sale, a four-time All Star (including this year), said he would leave the decision up to the manager.
"Those aren't my decisions to make. I understand where he's coming from. I respect it. I've got to put this team first and foremost. This is the team I'm playing for and that I have a future with," Sale said."I've enjoyed pitching in the past. I would like to. But at the same time, that's a decision for him to make. He's going to make the right one."
In this season so far, the ace is 8-4 with a 2.72 ERA in 119 1/3 innings. In his last outing on Saturday, Sale recorded 10 strikeouts.
The All-Star game will be on Tuesday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. It will be aired live by FOX.
