Ex-Wife of US Oil Tycoon Says $1 Billion Divorce Award "Not Equitable"
The ex-wife of the U.S. oil tycoon who was awarded cash and assets worth more than $1 billion in the couple's divorce last week will be appealing the judgement.
Claiming that she was shortchanged by the ruling, Sue Ann Hamm said she deserved way more than what she was awarded.
In what has been dubbed as the largest divorce payouts in history, Hamm says that she is entitled to at least half the assets of Continental Resources CEO, Harold Hamm. She questions the decision of the Oklahoma County judge who allowed Harold to keep more than 90 percent of his estimated $18 billion rise in his company shares that occurred during the couple's 26-year marriage.
One of Sue Ann Hamm's lawyers, Ron Barber, told Reuters that she will be appealing within a few weeks. According to Barber, she believes that the decision is "not equitable".
"Sue Ann is disappointed in the outcome of this case. She dedicated 25 years as Harold's faithful partner in family and business," Barber said, The Daily Mail reports.
The 68-year-old oil tycoon's company owns one million acres in North Dakota's Bakken oilfield and is thought to have access to more oil underground than any other American. The couple has two daughters and do not have a prenuptial agreement, the National Post reports.
Oklahoma Count Court Judge Howard Haralson had ordered the CEO to pay his ex-wife $995 million. The ruling also allowed her to keep the additional assets, which includes a California ranch and a home in Oklahoma, that would be worth tens of millions.
