Man Honors Wife by Walking 600 Miles to Comic-Con Dressed as Stormtrooper
A man from Minnesota honored his late wife by walking more than 600 miles to Comic-Con International in San Diego dressed as Stormtrooper from "Star Wars."
The 57-year-old man, Kevin Doyle and his wife, Eileen, were huge fans of the "Star Wars" franchise. Before his wife's death, the married couple would frequently dress up in "Star Wars" gear. His wife died from pancreatic cancer in 2012.
Doyle started his long journey on June 6 at the "Star Wars" museum located in Petaluma and arrived in San Diego on Thursday, July 9. Doyle revealed to the San Diego Union Tribune that ever since his wife passed away, his creativity has been stunted. He decided to go on this long walk to get inspiration. Doyle is a photographer and illustrator.
"In the time since she died, I've struggled with how to deal with the loss. I've been self-destructive and my art suffered," he said. "Being out here, my mindset is an open book. I hope I find enough healing to be creative and work in that way again."

When Doyle was Google mapping his journey from San Francisco to San Diego, he found out that the trip would was 501 miles long. Doyle and Eileen were members of the 501st legion, the Star Wars' costume organization.
"When you lose somebody, you look for things like that," he said. "To me it was like she was telling me that this was something I needed to do."
Since Doyle took the coastal route, which is 645 miles long, he had to walk about 20 to 45 miles per day.
"So far, I feel like I'm so much better in the healing process than if I'd stayed home," he said. "I'm looking forward to heading back up the coast to explore a few more pockets, pull out a chair and sit for a day."
Doyle added that he hopes to raise money for the children's charity that he launched in honor of his wife, Eileen's Little Angels.
