Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Sets Sales Record, Becomes Fastest-Selling Album in a Decade
Taylor Swift's latest album, "1989" has set another record. According to Billboard, the "Bad Blood" singer's album has sold more than five million copies in the 36 weeks that it has been on sale, making it the fastest-selling album in more than a decade.
The last time an album reached five millions sales was in 2004 when sales for Usher's "Confessions" passed the five million mark in the 19th week after it was released.
"1989" is Swift's third album to hit the five million sales mark. Her previous two albums, "Fearless" released in 2008 and "Taylor Swift" released in 2006 have sold 6.95 million and 5.52 million, respectively. "1989" is also the most recent album since Adele's "21" to sell five million copies. Sales Adele's "21" reached the five million mark in its 42 week, which dated back to Dec. 11, 2011. Since then, the album as has 11.1 million to-date.
The record is just one of the many records that Swift's latest album and songs have broken. Swift's "Blank Space" music video set the record for fastest video to reach one billion views on Vevo. Her music video for "Bad Blood," which features many of her celebrity friends, such as Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, set the Vevo record for most views within 24 hours. The music video had racked up 20.1 million views.
