Report: NY Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul had One Finger Amputated after Firework Accident
New York Giants Jason Pierre-Paul ended up losing one finger due to a firework accident that occurred during the Fourth of July weekend. ESPN.com's Adam Schefter cited league sources, who stated that doctors had to amputate the 26-year-old defensive end's right index finger Wednesday afternoon. Schefter also uploaded the medical charts.

Several media outlets are reporting that a legal investigation against the hospital will most likely start. Although Schefter's post was legal, whoever gave him the medial charts could be in serious trouble.
Pro Football Talk reported, "The investigation will begin with the hospital that generated the records. While some have cited HIPAA as the basis for a lawsuit against the hospital, HIPAA does not permit a private legal action for the violation of its terms. Instead, any claims against the hospital would be made under Florida privacy laws. Over the years, large verdicts have been awarded against health-care providers that released private patient information."
In regards to Pierre-Paul's healing process, he will reportedly return "sooner than people think" and is expected to play in 2015. Before deciding on the procedure, Pierre-Paul reportedly talked with his medical team and family. They ultimately concluded that amputation was the best option for his health and his career.
Pierre-Paul will remain in the hospital for at least two to three more days in order to recover from several surgeries. ESPN.com's Ed Werder reported that Pierre-Paul also sustained fractures in his right thumb, which could take up to six weeks to fully heal.
The Giant was one of two NFL players to get injured from fireworks. The other player, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson ended up losing two fingers in another event.
Giant officials have flown down to Florida to see how extensive Pierre-Paul's injuries are. They, however, have not been able to make it past the hospital's waiting room.
Pierre-Paul had a great 2014-15 season. He recorded a total of 77 combined tackles, 12.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.
The Giants used the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul, who still has not sign it. He has until July 15.
