Two separate road accidents in San Francisco injured 40 people and more than half are admitted in hospital. The two accidents took place just minutes apart.

The first accident occurred in Japantown about 1:30 p.m. on the westbound lanes of Geary Boulevard as a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency bus driver changed direction abrupty and slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a dump truck that had stopped suddenly.

This led to the bus ramming another dump truck travelling in the  same direction said police Sgt. Danielle Newman reports Los Angeles Times. Twenty passenger were injured and 12 of them are admitted in hospital.

Around 1:50 pm the Muni light train heading north on Third Street near Innes Avenue collided with a truck and the train derailed said, police spokesman Albie Esparza. Twenty people were injured, and 11 of them were taken to hospitals.

The reason for the accident was due to the illegal left turn made by the truck driver, reports the  San Francisco Chronicle.

Light-rail passenger Robert Williams said the train was full and had been slowing down as it pulled into a stop."The next thing you know, I heard a loud screech and the train came to a sudden stop, it was like an earthquake. Lots of people fell down," reports Chronicle.

Both the cases are under investigation.
