NBA Free Agency: Clippers, Rockets Eyeing Free Agent Josh Smith

The Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets are reportedly both eyeing free agent Josh Smith.

ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne reported that the Clippers, who have very limited salary-cap space, might look to upgrade their roster with Smith, who does not have a team yet.

The Clippers, who have Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, just lost their star center, DeAndre Jordan, who decided to sign with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. Although they signed Paul Pierce and acquired Lance Stephenson, the team is still without a big man.

Smith started off the 2014 season with the Detroit Pistons. After a dismal start, the Pistons decided to waive him. Smith then signed with the Houston Rockets, where he reunited with his old teammate, Dwight Howard. He averaged 12.4 points, 3.3 assists and 6.4 rebounds. During the post season, he averaged 13.5 points and 5.7 rebounds.

If Smith signs with the Clippers, he will most likely be the backup for Griffin or Pierce. However, he could also stay in Houston. Other reports are claiming that the Rockets are also interested in bringing Smith back. The Rockets recently resigned Corey Brewer.

Smith was also rumored to be headed to the Sacramento Kings. Rudy Gay teased fans when he uploaded a snap of Smith with a caption reading, "He a king next." If Smith were to go to the Kings, he would be reuniting with high school teammate, Rajon Rondo, who agreed to a one-year deal. The Kings, however, do not have cap space left to realistically be able to sign Smith.

Teams can officially sign free agents starting on July 9.
