New York Giants Jason Pierre-Paul has injured his hand in a firework accident Saturday night, several media outlets reported.

Ian Rapoport with NFL.com reported that the 26-year-old defensive end injured himself when he was attempting to light fireworks. Pierre-Paul was hospitalized. Rapoport added on Sunday that the doctors were still examining his hand and that he will most likely not suffer long-term damage.

Adam Schefter with ESPN.com reported that Pierre-Paul could have nerve damage in one finger. He also suffered burns on the palm and on three fingers. Contrary to earlier reports that claimed Pierre-Paul's hand was "severely injured," he did not lose any fingers.

The Giants used the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul, who has not signed the tender yet. If the Giants decide to pull their offer, Pierre-Paul would be out $14.8 million.

In the 2014-15 season, Pierre-Paul started all 16 games. He recorded 77 combined tackles, 13.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. According to the Pro Football Focus' ratings, Pierre-Paul was ranked No. 7 out of 59 4-3 defensive ends.
