"The Theory of Everything" Review: A Romance of Two Extraordinary People
"The Theory of Everything" is the story of Stephen Hawking and may be the title describes what Stephen Hawking really wants to achieve in life as a physicist as well as a philosopher.
The movie is a romantic biography of the relationship between the theoretical physicist, being played by Eddie Redmayne of "Les Miserables" fame, and his first wife Jane Wilde, played by "The Invisible Woman" Felicity Jones.
"The Theory of Everything", directed by James Marsh, is based on Wilde's memoir: Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen. It details how the two fell in love when they were studying at Cambridge University in the 1960s. He was a graduation student in Physics and she was pursuing a Ph.D. in Medieval Poetry, CBS Local reports.
Even though in the beginning Marsh's approach to the story would seem incompatible, Anthony McCarten's extremely witty script will woo you in no time. It will help erase the common image of Hawking - "as a wheelchair-bound, robot-voiced intellectual" and show you a person similar to us, The Huntington News reports.
The movie beautifully captures the soul of their relationship. It shows how Hawking and Wilde faced numerous obstacles in their personal lives, yet confronted each of them and brought up their three children. The couple craved for a family life normalcy. At the age of 21 years, Hawking was given two years to live, but Wilde denied the diagnosis and rightly so.
Oscar-winner director Marsh started as a documentarian. He won the Oscar for "Man on Wire", "Project Nim" and "The Team".
