In the latest chapter of love-hate partnership of Apple and Samsung, both companies are in talks for making flash memory chips for the newest iPhone.

Citing unnamed sources, The Korean Times reported that Apple wants to increase the storage capacity of the upcoming iPhones, to be tentatively named iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

"As Apple plans to increase its shipments of the mid-range iPhone models with larger capacities amid growing consumer demand for data-intensive features, including cloud services, Samsung Electronics is in talks to sell more of its flash chips for the next models," the report says.

At present, iPhone 6's 64GB NAND chips are supplied by Toshiba, SanDisk and SK hynix.

Reportedly, the negotiations between Apple and Samsung is still ongoing over pricing and shipments.

The Korea Times further added that Samsung is testing its latest NAND chips in a chip factory in Xian, China.

According to earlier reports, Samsung has also agreed to provide A9 chips for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

According to rumors, the next version of iPhone will be released in September.
