Flir Unveils Second Generation of Thermal Camera for iOS, Android

Flir Systems has unveiled the second generation of Flir One thermal imager, for iOS and Android devices. The new devices are smaller and cheaper.

The pocket-sized accessory attaches to a mobile gadget and turns your smartphone into a thermal imager that sees heat and measures temperature.

Instead of replacing your phone case, like the original Flir, the new device attaches via the mini-USB or Lightning port at the bottom of the device. An internal battery powers the system.

It sports Flir's latest Lepton thermal camera core, which promises four times the resolution of the previous model.

The new Flir One for iOS is available for $249.99. The Android version is due next month for the same price.

The first-generation Flir One for Apple's iPhone 5 or 5s is still on sale, now for a discounted $149.99 (down from $349), PC Mag notes.
